I still don’t really know how I managed to book the wrong Hotel in a place, where there are only 2 Hotels. Actually there are only 2 houses. One at each side of the road. Jep and the one I was looking forward to spend a nice weekend with Marco was on the other side… so the only thing we did in LaRösa was getting out of the bus, drinking 2 glases of wine and jumping on the next bus out of the valley of Poschiavo. Next time it will be La Stazione della Posta!
But with a weekend ahead, plenty of humor and luck we found another beautiful place to stay Lej da Staz….

A gathering of friends, celebrating good food & good company. Thirty people, with unique stories, meeting for the first time,  wearing fancy hats, sharing a picnic meal, enjoying quality time sprinkled with laughter and wine. Magdalena, Yoli and Deddou invited for this inspiring event in the midst of cosy blankets, adorned with fresh lavender and thyme topped with fine herb-infused, home-cocked food and delicious drinks.

What a good idea to create a menu with the theme “Cozy Lavender Garden and Thyme” and then assign the recipes to the guests. Everyone cooks a part of the menu. The venue was decorated with lots of attention for details and the buffet was amazing. It’s so inspiring to see what you can do out of Lavender and Thyme and how different you can use  herbs. I didn’t cook this time but was happy to bring some of my Lemon-Thyme Sirup I produced some time ago. A truly nice afternoon and I’m curious what the next theme will be..

Miami started with an unbelievable Apéro at The Raleigh. Free food & drinks in an nice atmosphere- no need so say more… My  little art tour actually started already in NY with a visit of the New Museum and the MoMA, where I took some of the pics. The ART Basel Miami was very impressive but actually it seems, that I was rather people watching than I had the completion of looking at the pieces. And there where many people and a lot of art everywhere. It is kind of a family affair to be a Stones fan. How lucky we where, that there was a photo exhibition with previously undisclosed tour photos of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones at the Betsy Hotel. There was also a lot going on at the Design District ; different spaces and ateliers showed their work and outside performances. Like our friends from the Ping-Pong Gallery in Basel who had a pop-up gallery. There I fell in love with two pictures. And then, another night with art, music and free drinks.
Miami is fun during these special days but besides that I didn’t took that many impressions home. But as soon as I got home I bought myself the two pieces from Sue Irion – as a nice memory and a good start for my collection.

It’s some weeks since I was in NY but anyway my thoughts are there and I would like to share some impressions and places.

Staying in Williamsburg was a great choice especially at this nice “chic, clean, peaceful” Airbnb Apartment. The neighborhood is lively and full of bars and restaurants, like my long time favorite Marlow&Sons or the newer Hotel Delmano right next to the stylish Wythe Hotel. There are Oysters everywhere at Bedford Avenue at the Maison Premiere or in the East Village in the new opened Leadbelly the latest Restaurant of the Silkstone Crew. There are so many, too many things to see. So maybe there will be a NY13… but before that there was some ART in Miami and will be some time in India!

Good to be back on track…

A hidden place in Berlin – Neukölln where you feel like in Italy… An old laundry offers the atmosphere for this real Trattoria. The best way to explore and find these places is to rent a bike and just start cruising the streets! Lavanderia offers daily Lunch and a fixed Dinner menu, which sounded amazing but unfortunately I had no reservation for the evening… so I had to come back the next day por un buon piatta di pasta al pesto. And it was really worth it!

I like to travel alone but when it comes to dinner it always feels a little strange to go to a restaurant on my own. So I was glad to come across The Parlour Dinners,  a series of events that take place in Berlin Mitte. Laurin told me that he doesn’t call himself a professional cook but the food, the atmosphere the whole evening was even better than in most of the “real” restaurants. I enjoyed being a guest and to experience how other people create their pop-up Dinners like I do my TAVOLATA.

I especially like the Idea that Laurin combines his cooking project with a friend who does handmade furniture – so the showroom becomes a restaurant and vice versa.
Their claim: the project is a homage to quality food, dining culture and unique handmade wooden furniture, is definitely true!

Another reason to stay and enjoy summer in Zurich: Frau Gerolds Garten!
A garden in the city to grow vegetables, herbs and plants – a place for gardening and to relax and enjoy fresh food and drinks. I think this is just great and I’m happy that Frau Gerold is just 2 Minutes bike drive from Herr Albisriederplatz, the place I live…

Restaurant Day Zürich N°1 was a lot of fun: a sunny day with very lovely decorated places – good food – interesting people. It’s was so wonderful to see people enjoying the food carnival – we go a lot of very positive feedback and are looking forward to the next International Restaurant Day. We are sure to beat our score of 13 Zurich Restaurants and hopefully are able to inspire other cities in switzerland!

A big thanks to Helsinki for sharing this great concept and for all the Swiss Restaurants who were so courageous to participate. Claudia, Corina& Lea

Behind these Ochs&Junior watches is a lot more to discover as you might expect. I had the chance to do the first TAVOLATA&Ochs in the new concept store and I’m truly amazed by the space and it’s atmosphere… and of course the freshly brewed Black&Blaze espresso made perfectly by Beat! I’m so looking forward to all the upcoming moments at Zürichstrasse 49 and I’m glad that Bea catches them in her beautiful pictures.
