One thing I really like about shopping at holstee is the note when you want to Checkout your cart that says: “Reduce where possible: if you dont need something don’t buy it :)”
I totally agree but then there are times, like christmas, you might be tempted to buy some needless things just for fun or to make someone happy…
Here are some christmas present ideas my family gave each other

Essen gehn! | something sociable, having dinner with someone and discover  new places in your town
Olio Fratelli Sanfilippo | always necessary to have a good olive oil
La Cocotte Staub | we had five under our christmas tree it’s almost a family tradition to have one or two
City Guide | usually I buy these for myself as a voucher for a next trip…
Photobook | it’s just nice to reminisce after a journey
Magazine | an interesting gift that comes six times a year
Beanies | for cold days and comfy moments
Shaving | for all the beards – just don’t shave them too short…

So now, happy gift wrapping and a wonderful time with family and friends!

Thanks to Creative Mornings I had the chance to listen to Fabian Pfortmüller talking about the project Holstee. In a very sympathetic talk he explained how it all  began with the idea to produce T-Shirts with a special holster-positioned pocket, this has led to the Name Holstee (holster tee) and prompted the friends to quit their jobs. The first thing Holstee’s three founders -Mike, Fabian and Dave- then did was sit together and write down what they wanted from life and how to create a company that breathes their passion into the world. It was a reminder of what they live for. The result became known as the Holstee Manifesto. Since then they work, produce, spread and live this lifestyle.
It sounds simple. logical. obvious. the right thing. I hope I find the courage to do so too.

At DesignSchenken | ZH I met Jana with her brand RoyalBLUSH. Not only the products impressed me but also her ideals behind the label. Each piece is made of vegetable tanned leather or organic salmon, manufactured with local handcraft. Salmon leather is something I’ve never seen before and indeed is a very new and innovative material to use in this industry. As the skins form a by-product of the food industry, the animals are not specifically bred or killed for their skin. The plant based tanning process preserves the skin’s pigmentation and characteristic structure and makes it a very refined and special material for her products.
Janas slogan “Accessories with a conscience” are not just empty words but her real passion and believe.

Design Schenken is a special Christmas market for design lovers. Young Swiss Designlabels present their special Christmas gift ideas and other selected products.
After the great successes in 2009 and 2010 Fidea Design organizes Design Schenken for the third time in Lucerne and for the first time there will be a small Pop-up store Design Schenken Zurich at the Tatjane Showroom.

Come by and enjoy my homemade cookies, mulled wine & apple punch…

Wednesday morning in Oerlikon with my big basket to fill up with all the fresh vegetables from www.haabwalser.ch and flowers for a long table. TAVOLATA TRE starts…
The Menu is set with lots of winter vegetables like beet root, savoy cabbage, fennel and of course my big pasta-bowl… At Viadukt I bought all the other things: Grappa, Cafe and Peppe at Berg und Tal, the most delicious Burrata as well as a piece of Le Cironé, one of my favorite cheeses at Tritt.
Some cooking hours later I was happy to welcome my guests in the warm atmosphere of Freiwerk and I enjoyed another wonderful evening with lots of good moments and talks. That is what it’s all about.

Grazie a tutti.

A wonderful train ride from Grad Central Station up north along the Hudson to Beacon, a small village with a great Art Foundation.
Dia:Beacon, Riggio Galleries, opened in 2003 as a museum to house its renowned permanent collection of major works of art from the 1960s to the present. Dia:Beacon occupies a nearly 300,000-square-foot historic printing factory. The galleries are vast and the collection is amazing. A truly inspiring trip to make a break from the hustle in NYC.

My favorite place for breakfast, lunch and dinner. A simple surprising seasonal cuisine in an industrial hospitable atmosphere with nice staff. Almost perfect – should just be in ZH not in NY… or I in NY not in ZH…

A rainy day in NY – a good reason to buy a nice hat at Goorin Bros.
I found this shop at Bleecker Street and when I entered I felt like going back in time. Run as a family business since 1895 I was overwhelmed by all these hats in different styles and shapes.
My “Fletcher” is a model called Gatsby – the name became associated with this hat due to the high popularity of the novel “The Great Gatsby” which plays in NY in the Roaring Twenties. The hat is fabricated from authentic British wool tweed and was indeed my rescuer in the NY Rain.
